Save A Life

Sissy

Sissy, as named by her new Dad, was brought to the humane society by one of the animal control officers.  She was found running loose with no apparent home.  Sissy was very dirty, matted and could have smelled a whole lot better.  It was hard to know just how long she had been homeless but she obviously hadn’t been eating on a regular basis and she was only about a year old.

Sissy waited for a week at the shelter for someone to come and get her but no one showed up or called to inquire about her.  The staff thought she was so sweet, in spite of her appearance and some minor health problems that surely someone would be willing to give her a home.

Once she was moved over to the adoption area, it wasn’t long before someone saw beyond the mats and dirt to see the gentle soul behind it all.

I met her a week after her adoption when her Dad brought her back to thank the staff for taking good care of her and to show how much she had improved.  It was very obvious that it hadn’t taken long for the two to bond.  Dad said things were going wonderfully at home and Sissy was learning very quickly. She was getting along very well with the other two dogs, Duke and Johnny aka “the boys”.  In fact, that is how she got her name as she was introduced to them as their “sissy” short for sister.

It had taken the groomers 4 hours to cut out all the mats and groom her but now she is absolutely beautiful.  She has a little more weight to put on but she is content and has a loving family.  When I asked her Dad why he selected her, he replied that it was because she looked so dirty, neglected and pathetic.  What a happy ending for a frightened, lonely and pathetic looking stray from Camden County.

Lesson to be learned: Look beyond initial appearances and see the possibility of the beauty that lays beneath.  You may be rewarded beyond your imagination.
