Adoption
Policies Fees Pets Seniors

Below is a listing of our adoption policies:
  • A person adopting an animal must be 18 years of age or older or have a parent or legal guardian present to sign release forms.
  • We will not adopt animals to persons expressing a desire to breed the animals. In addition, the Humane Society will not assist in providing pedigree papers on animals adopted from us.
  • A person adopting an animal must present proper identification consisting of driver's license or social security or other suitable identification.
  • Puppies or kittens under the age of three months of age, or eight pounds should not be placed in homes with children under six years of age. Small children's enthusiasm or carelessness can sometimes endanger the life or a small kitten or puppy. The final decision must rest with the Shelter Manager.
  • We generally will not adopt dogs that appear to be of the Chow breed or Chow mixed breeds because of their unpredictable temperament
  • Any surrendered vicious type breeds; i.e., pits, pit mixes, rottweilers, and cockers will be offered for adoption at the Shelter Manager's discretion after careful review of the animals behavior.
  • All animals must be at least 8 weeks of age when adopted.

Seniors For Seniors Program

HSCC has initiated a new adoption program called Seniors for Seniors. Any individual 60 years or older can adopt an animal that is 3 years old or older without paying our normal adoption fee as long as all other adoption criteria are met. If the Senior can afford a contribution to help defray the cost of the animal's care it is appreciated but not required.

In addition, if the Senior who adopted the animal is unable to provide the necessary care at a future date, the animal can be returned to the Humane Society.
